Langenhoven Gimnasium have won the South Western Districts T20 Schools Challenge Provincial title after beating Bridgton RPC by five wickets in the final.
The 2019 T20 Challenge tournament has reached the business end of the tournament and Langenhoven Gimnasium has won the South Western Districts provincial finals of the T20 Schools Challenge. They played in the Cobras’ franchise final to see if they can be the first team from SWD to represent their franchise in the T20 Schools Challenge national finals from 15–17 March.
This year’s provincial finals were played over two days at Outeniqua High School and started off at the quarter-final stage with Langenhoven Gimnasium, Oakdale Agricultural School, Bridgton RPC, Sentraal High School, Sao Bras Secondary School, Outeniqua High School, Oakhill School and Point High School playing to represent their province.
Langenhoven Gimnasium beat Oakhill School by 42 runs in the quarter-final, Oakdale Agricultural School by 11 runs in the semi-final, and Brighton RPC by 5 wickets in the final.
It was hard to select one player that stood out for Langenhoven Gimnasium because all their bowlers and batsmen did their duty for the team, but one performance stood out and that was Jhedli van Briesies’ 78 not out against Oakdale Agricultural School.
The winner of the Franchise Finals will join the other five franchises winners and the two schools that qualified through the CSA Focus School programme at the competition’s National Finals at the University of Pretoria from 15-17 March 2019. The T20 School Challenge winner stands to walk away with R110 000 for their school.
