South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen has been added to the list of players for Tuesday’s Indian Premier League auction.
Van der Dussen was the leading run-scorer in the inaugural Mzansi Super League, having struck 469 runs in 11 innings for the title-winning Jozi Stars.
The hard-hitting righ-hander also won the inaugural Global T20 Canada with the Vancouver Knights – and featured for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League – earlier this year.
Fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Lutho Sipamla, who represented the Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans respectively in the MSL, have been listed for the auction as well.
Batsmen Janneman Malan, Cameron Delport, Ryan Rickelton and Pite van Biljon, all-rounder Jason Smith and seamer Shadley van Schalkwyk are the other internationally-uncapped South African players among the candidates.
‘With INR 1.5 crore as a base price, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel will hope to return to action for the 12th season of the IPL. Among the Indian quicks, Mohammed Shami has set his base price at INR 1 crore, while Ishant Sharma will invite the first bid at INR 75 lacs.’ read early December’s statement from Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Amitabh Choudhary.
‘The IPL 2019 player auction list is out with a total pool of 346 cricketers set to go under the hammer in Jaipur on 18 December 2018. While 1003 players had initially registered, the final list has been pruned after the eight franchises submitted their shortlists of players.
‘With INR 2 crore as the highest reserve price, nine overseas players – Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes, Lasith Malinga, Shaun Marsh, Colin Ingram, Corey Anderson, Angelo Mathews, D’Arcy Short – have opted to be slotted in the highest bracket.
‘Jaydev Unadkat, last season’s top Indian grosser with a whopping final bid amount of INR 11.5 crore, leads the pack among Indian players with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Former Kings XI Punjab all-rounders Yuvraj Singh and Axar Patel have set their base price at INR 1 crore.’
Former international cricketers David Wiese, Rilee Rossouw, Hardus Viljoen and Marchant de Lange, who have all signed Kolpak contracts and therefore are unavailable for the Proteas, will also be available for purchase.
