Cape Town Blitz all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is hoping that success in the Mzansi Super League could result in a recall to Pakistan’s limited-overs teams.

Nawaz has been a key member of the Blitz’s surge to the top of the tournament’s six-team standings, which has resulted in a berth in Sunday’s final at Newlands.

His stint with the Blitz was punctuated by a trip to the United Arab Emirates for Sharjah’s T10 League. He played for the Sindhis in the UAE, but is currently focused on beating the Paarl Rocks or Jozi Stars in the final – and potentially earning an international recall.

Pakistan, meanwhile, have arrived in South Africa for three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is.

‘I think the Pakistan team is a very good side and it will be a very good contest against South Africa in the upcoming series,’ said Nawaz, who last played for Pakistan in September, but missed the series against New Zealand,’ Nawaz told Cricket365.

‘I am trying my best to get back into the national side. I am doing a lot of work in the gym and on the ground, and I hope that I will be back in the Pakistan team very soon.

‘I came from the UAE, where conditions are very different, so I think I have adapted well and I have one more push for the final, and hopefully it will go well for myself and the team.

‘The quality has been very good in the tournament. We know that South African players play quality cricket. I think the first edition of the Mzansi Super League has been very good, as expected, and I’m looking forward to the final.’

Two other Pakistanis – all-rounder Hussain Tallat and batsman Asif Ali – also played for the Cape Town franchise during the MSL.
