Batsman Henry Davids’ participation in the Paarl Rocks’ Mzansi Super League fixture against the Tshwane Spartans at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday is in doubt.

Davids injured a hamstring during Sunday’s nine-wicket victory over the Durban Heat at Boland Park. He retired hurt on two.

The veteran right-hander captained the Rocks through the opening matches of the inaugural tournament, but has since handed the reins to Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis.

Du Plessis starred in Sunday’s victory, striking 76 not out en route to the Player of the Match award. He gathered nine fours and no sixes during a workmanlike 48-ball stay.

‘There were a lot of twos there. It was important to bat. I was trying to get a lot of twos and then the odd boundary. The new ball skids on a little bit more. That’s where the difference came in – we stopped boundaries in the middle overs,’ said Du Plessis.

The Heat, meanwhile, will welcome Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan for Wednesday’s clash against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at Kingsmead.

Khan has been playing for the Maratha Arabians in the T10 League in Sharjah, but will start a much-anticipated stint as the Heat’s overseas marquee player next week.

‘Rashid is a world-class spinner. Hopefully, he can give the extra edge in the field,’ added Heat captain Albie Morkel.
