Captain Albie Morkel is banking on a star-studded Durban Heat batting order to perform well, sooner or later.
The Heat boast the services of Proteas Hashim Amla, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Khaya Zondo, Temba Bavuma and others, but currently occupy last position in the Mzansi Super League’s six-team standings.
‘They are all experienced cricketers and they all know how to turn their game around. Not any coach will do it, the players will know how to do it, to find that magic moment,’ said Morkel.
Amla’s form is a particular concern. The veteran right-hander has managed a mere 51 in four MSL innings – and fell for a duck against the Paarl Rocks at Kingsmead recently.
‘It might be anything, like a nick through slip or one good shot through the covers for a guy like Hashim to be back to his full form again,’ added Morkel.
‘It is early, but from a personal point of view as the captain, I would like for us to get on to a bit of a roll now.
‘If you can win three or four now and get into the play-offs, then anything can happen. So, I do think we need to make a move right away and the next week will be very important for us.’
The Heat will play the Jozi Stars at the Wanderers on Friday.
