Batsman Theunis de Bruyn is predictably confident the Tshwane Spartans can get on track, despite a rocky start to their Mzansi Super League campaign.

The Spartans are currently at the bottom of the six-team standings, after one victory in four attempts, including a rain-affected defeat to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants recently.

The Tshwane outfit will take on the Jozi Stars at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday.

‘We have had the weather around and it hasn’t quite worked out for us nicely. I still feel the emotions are good in the change room, though. If the team gels in the next few days, and we can get on a roll, you never know what might happen,’ said De Bruyn.

‘There have been moments when the team performance hasn’t been good enough and one or two individual performances haven’t been able to carry the team. I think we need a team performance.

‘We have played 80 percent of the game pretty well, and then all of a sudden in a 10-minute period we have lost it completely. We just have to play the pressure moments better. If we get a sniff we need to be clinical. That is something we can look to do and not be too extravagant with our plans. If we do the basics 100 percent right, we will win 80% of our games.’

The Spartans are captained by the talismanic AB de Villiers, but are without batsman Rilee Rossouw, who has left for a stint in the T10 League in Sharjah.
