Nelson Mandela Bay Giants coach Eric Simons is all but banking on key contributions from leg-spinner Imran Tahir and all-rounder Chris Morris, come Wednesday’s Mzansi Super League fixture against the Cape Town Blitz at Newlands.
Tahir and Morris have returned from Australia, where South Africa won a three-match ODI series two-one – and a one-off Twenty20 International.
‘We’ve always been a very balanced squad, but the arrival of Imran and Chris obviously adds new depth, new dimension and new experience to the side,’ said Simons.
‘It’s always a nice position to be in when you can have good, tough conversations about selection. Nobody deserves to be left out of the game, but obviously we have two international cricketers coming back and we want the best side in the field against Cape Town Blitz.’
The Blitz are a confident unit after beating the Tshwane Spartans and Durban Heat, while the Giants can build on their opening win over the Jozi Stars.
‘They are also a very good team and they have got wins under the belt as well, and we are looking forward to a very exciting game on Wednesday. It will be a good game and we are keen to get it under way now,’ added Simons.
