• Double wins for KES, St John’s, Jeppe

    King Edward’s Bryce Parsons goes into the break ahead of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week in a rich vein of form. He has been scoring runs and taking wickets consistently, culminating in 124 with the bat and 2-16 with the ball in his side’s 137-run win over Pretoria Boys’ High on the weekend, writes THEO GARRUN.

    Parsons smashed 14 fours in reaching 124 off 134 balls as he helped his side to 142-6. He then played his part in removing Pretoria for 105. Off-spinner Mickey Copeland took 3-29 and Keagan Janse Van Rensburg 2-16.

    Parsons will be joined by bowler Obakeng Maila in the Central Gauteng Strikers U19A team that will be going to Cape Town in December. Copeland is in the Central Gauteng Strikers U17 team.

    Connor Esterhuizen of St John’s also got a century on the weekend. He made 104 against Helpmekaar and was aided by Jack Lees (42) in setting a target of 223. Helpmekaar were then bowled out for 122, with Bismark Olivier taking 3-18.

    In another significant result last weekend, Jeppe continued their improved form, beating St Stithians by 74 runs.

    The last of the Johnny Waite Knockout Cup round-robin matches for the year were played on Wednesday. As expected, there were some big wins for the fancied sides over the minnows. King Edward, for example, bowled Fourways out for just 33 and won by 10 wickets, while St John’s removed Beaulieu for 105 and also won by 10 wickets.
