Kyle Verreynne says he is looking forward to learning from Quinton de Kock during their time together at the Cape Town Blitz, writes KHALID MOHIDIN. 

The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has been a crucial cog in the winning run of the Cobras in the 4-Day Franchise Series and his talkative quirky personality is a similarity he shares with Proteas wicketkeeper De Kock.

Verreynne will have the chance to rub shoulders with De Kock after they were both drafted in the Cape Town Blitz set-up.

This is an opportunity for Verreynne to weigh up his ability with the best wicketkeeper-batsman in the country as well as pick up tips from the 25-year-old superstar.

Coach Ashwell Prince showed confidence in his young charge by picking him for the Blitz as a backup keeper for De Kock, who is their Proteas marquee player.

‘I’m obviously very happy to be picked up,’ Verreynne told SACricketmag.com.

‘To be honest, I wasn’t really too worried about it, there aren’t too many players involved and it’s the first season, so I wasn’t looking at it too much.

‘It’s something I’m very excited about. Obviously, I don’t know how much I’m going to be able to play with De Kock in the same team.

‘I think being able to share the changing room with him, Steyn and those guys are really going to help me grow and learn. I think the exciting thing to come from that is being able to spend time with them off the field as well as on it.’

Verreynne scored 46 for the Cobras on Thursday to help them seal a five-wicket win against the Dolphins in the 4-Day Franchise Series.
