Mhtiwekhaya Nabe took a maiden five-for against the Dolphins at Newlands, to help the Cobras dismiss the visitors for 225. 

The 22-year-old was crucial for the Cape-based side and finished with 5-60 on a tough batting day for the visitors.

He took his first wicket in the first session, dismissing Sarel Erwee (35) before lunch. He then dismissed Sibonelo Makhanya (duck), Keshav Maharaj (10) and Robbie Frylinck (15) in the middle session and Okuhle Cele (five) in the last season.

Talking to SACricketmag.com after the day’s play, Nabe was extremely pleased about his achievement.

‘I’m pretty proud of my performance,’ said Nabe. ‘It was a very good bowling performance from the team, but I enjoyed the five-for.’

It was overcast conditions throughout the day at Newlands with bad light eventually stopping play.

Nabe, however, never cited the conditions as the reason for his performance.

‘I wouldn’t say that the conditions played a big part,’ said Nabe.

‘What was key in my performance was me trying to run in, trying to have a stable base at the crease and follow through straight down the wicket. I had a good rhythm and ticked all my boxes to bowl a good spell first up.’

The Dolphins, however, dished out what they received as the Cobras lost four wickets for 45 runs before bad light stopped play.
