The Proteas bowlers put in a combined effort to reduce Zimbabwe to 132-7 in the second T20I in Potchefstroom.
The Proteas got off to their desired start. Dane Paterson bringing his domestic form for the Cobras into the match, bowling Solomon Mire by removing his off stump with his second delivery.
Hamilton Masakadza ignored the early wicket and slammed Ngidi for two sixes and a four in his second over to take the visitors to 27-1 after three overs.
Robbie Frylinck was brought in to replace Ngidi and he struck off his sixth delivery bowling Masakadza who swung straight down the ground and missed a ball nipping in. Tarisai Musakanda fell in Frylinck’s second over, the burly all-rounder showed his experience by drawing out the batter, who found an outside edge to the keeper off an attempted drive.
Zimbabwe worked their way back into the match through a cameo 29 from Brendan Taylor, but incredible bowling from Tabraiz Shamsi saw Taylor miss time his slog only to watch a low straight ball crash into the middle stump.
Sean Williams shifted Zimbabwe’s momentum – his massacre of Shamsi (1-37) in the spinner’s final over saw him slam three sixes and a four to take Zimbabwe to 97-3 by the end of the 14th over. He managed to reach 41 off 28 balls before Paterson picked up his second scalp by sending Williams’ leg-stump tumbling.
Despite an expensive second over, Ngidi (2-36) came back with his third spell and dismissed Elton Chigumbura (six), who found an outside edge off the lower part of his bat that drew out an incredible out-stretched leap from De Kock who gloved a sensational catch.
Zimbabwe wilted when Peter Moor (nine) skied a Ngidi delivery to wide long-on where David Miller nestled a tricky catch.
Paterson conceded 11 in the final over as Zimbabwe were reduced to 132-7.
