On Saturday, over 1,600 KFC Mini-Cricket players representing schools from all over Pretoria got together at TUT for the annual Northerns KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Festival.

There are more than 120,000 kids currently involved in KFC Mini-Cricket across the country, and 16 dedicated Provincial KFC Mini-Cricket festivals are held annually. These festivals see kids from every corner of their respective provinces come together to get active through playing cricket.

The kids played what they can do under the supervision of 120 coaches and educators, with Proteas players Mangaliso Mosehle and Dwaine Pretorius coaching the kids and passing on some of their wisdom.

The schools came from Centurion, Laudium, Mamelodi, Soshanguve and Hammanskraal just to name a few areas. SA College, Pretoria Muslim Trust and Arethabeng Primary School were joined by schools with special needs such as Sunrise Primary School.

The rules of the game are very simple: each child gets to bowl six balls and face six balls and every child gets a chance to field in each fielding position. The format is ideal for introducing children to the game of cricket. It allows for participation by all the players, which maximises the fun that they will have during the day.
