CSA has lost the major sponsor for the Proteas Women cricket team.
The embattled cricket body has lost the Proteas Women’s team title sponsor, Momentum, according to a report in Sport 24.
Momentum had been a proud sponsor of the women’s national side for the past five years, but that relationship has come to an end, ironically just as women’s cricket in South Africa looks to be gaining strides with greater support from CSA.
‘That agreement has run its full course,’ said Carel Bosman, Momentum sponsorship manager. ‘That is a deal that, due to a re-look at our complete marketing strategy and sponsorships, we haven’t renewed. We would like to see ourselves as truly privileged to have been there when we started with the women five years ago. None of the players were actually contracted by CSA … they were an amateur squad.’
The news would have hit hard at CSA, who recently announced that Sunfoil would no longer be the title sponsor of South Africa’s domestic four-day cricket, while RAM has also backed off from its sponsorship of the domestic T20 tournament.
At present, the only men’s domestic tournament that will kick off the season with a title sponsor is the Momentum One Day Cup.
