Proteas stars Keshav Maharaj, Dean Elgar and Dale Steyn were all in form with bat or ball in the English County Championship today.
Maharaj’s county debut started disastrously, as Lancashire were bowled out for 99 in under 40 overs by Somerset, with Maharaj managing just a single in his brief stay at the crease.
With the ball in hand, however, Maharaj justified his Lancashire call-up by taking 4-65 to restrict Somerset to 192 off 46 overs and keep his side in the hunt for a win. South African-born Dane Vilas took one catch and a stumping off Maharaj, who finished with figures of 19-2-65-4.
Dean Elgar scored a well-crafted 75 off 179 balls for Surrey against Essex. Elgar shared a second-wicket stand of 148 with Rory Burns (90) as Surrey ended the day on 256-4.
Dale Steyn’s return from injury saw him score 25 runs off 41 balls for Hampshire against Worcestershire, as they were bowled out for 191 in 57.3 overs. Worcestershire fought back to reduce their hosts to 68-4 off 24.4 overs, Steyn picking up 1-14 off his seven overs.
