Nepal’s teenage sensation Sandeep Lamichhane almost bowled his side to a surprise win against Hong Kong.
Fresh from competing in the Caribbean Premier League for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Nepal’s most famous cricketer almost snatched a surprise win for his side against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup Qualifiers in Bangi.
Hong Kong rolled Nepal for 95 in 37.5 overs and would have expected an easy passage to victory, but Lamichhane had other ideas, dismissing five of the top six Hong Kong batsmen in an incredible spell of bowling.
His first two victims were out bowled and the next two leg before, illustrating the dominance he held over the batsmen.
Hong Kong weathered the Lamichhane storm – the bowler finishing his 10 overs with figures of 5-27 – and went on to pick the winning runs off with three wickets and 105 balls in hand.
With the victory, Hong Kong moved to second on the table with seven points, while Nepal remains in fourth spot with four points.
Lamichhane had enjoyed good success in the CPL before returning to international duty in the Asia Cup Qualifiers; in his last three matches prior to the Hong Kong loss, he has returned figures of 4-24, 2-20 and 3-35.
