Colin Munro and Darren Bravo’s six-fest set up a 46-run win for Trinbago over the Patriots.
Put in to bat first, Munro and Brendon McCullum added 78 for the third wicket, taking Trinbago to 112-3 at the end of the 15th over. From there, Munro and Bravo added an unbroken 66 for the fifth wicket off just 20 balls to rocket their side to one run shy of 200.
Munro ended 76 not out off 50 balls (three fours, five sixes), but it was Bravo who stole the show, his 37 not out coming off just 11 balls at the eye-popping strike rate of 336.36. Bravo hit five sixes and one four in his lightning-quick innings, which included five sixes in a row off the second last over, bowled by Alzarri Joseph.
Munro joined in the fun by hitting a four, a six and four twos off the final over bowled by Sheldon Cottrell, to take Trinbago to 199-4 off their 20 overs.
The Patriots started well and kept in check with the run rate, but the difference came in the final overs, as they were unable to match Munro and Bravo’s power hitting.
Evin Lewis scored 50 off 37 balls (two fours, five sixes), but none of his teammates could offer enough firepower to challenge Trinbago’s total. The Patriots ended 153-8, with Anderson Phillip taking 3-40 but going for 10 runs to the over, while Sunil Narine (5.50), Dwayne Bravo (6.50) and Fawad Ahmed (7.00) were all economical with the ball.
Trinbago sit on top of the table on net run rate but equal on 10 points with Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs. The Patriots are in fourth place on seven points.
