Martin Guptill’s 73 was in vain as Jamaica Tallawahs beat Barbados Tridents by five wickets.
The Tridents could manage only 151-9 in their 20 overs, with Martin Guptill scoring 73 off 60 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Hashim Amla failed for the third time in a row in the 2018 CPL, scoring just three runs after previous innings of 15 and 14.
Oshane Thomas took 2-22 (econ 5.50) to move up to second on the list of wicket-takers, one behind Andre Russell who has taken 14 wickets. The Tallawahs used seven bowlers, with each taking at least one wicket. David Miller was the only Tallawah player not to have a hand in a wicket during the innings.
Imran Khan was the only Trident bowler to go for less than eight runs an over as the Tallawahs made easy work of their target, reaching 153-5 with 16 balls in hand. Johnson Charles top-scored with 53 off 33 balls (fives fours, three sixes) and Rovman Powell scored 35 not out.
Miller hit a quickfire 14 off eight balls (with a six and a four) to speed his team to victory before he was out, caught behind. It was Miller’s first dismissal in four innings, during which time he has scored 143 runs. His average in CPL 2018 currently sits on 76.00, putting him way out on top ahead of second-placed Kieron Pollard, whose average is 55.00.
