Awesome hitting by Kieron Pollard has kept St Lucia Stars’ playoff hopes alive in the Caribbean Premier League.
Pollard blitzed an undefeated 41 off 18 balls (4×4, 3×6) in his side’s six-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors, their first after five straight losses.
Needing 31 off the last three overs, Pollard hammered 30 runs off Devendra Bishoo in the 18th over as the Stars put their losing streak to bed.
Andre Fletcher backed his captain up with an undefeated 45, while David Warner dropped down to No 4 after failing to impress as an opener, adding a valuable 23 off 16 balls in a 52-run stand with Fletcher.
Imran Tahir was again impressive with the ball, taking 1-18 in four overs (econ 4.50).
Guyana batted first and scored 140-9 in their 20 overs, Luke Ronchi (24) and South African-born Cameron Delport (25) top-scoring in a disappointing innings. Qais Ahmad (1-23, econ 5.75) was the pick of the bowlers, while Warner picked up three catches.
The loss was the first for the Amazons this season.
