Kieron Pollard scored his first T20 century to set up up a 38-run win for the Stars.
St. Lucia Stars posted 226-6 in their 20 overs against the Barbados Tridents to record the highest total in CPL history 226-6.
Ironically, their mammoth total included three ducks, with only three batsmen scoring runs for the Stars – Andre Fletcher, Rahkeem Cornwall and skipper Pollard. David Warner, Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy registered ducks, and even batsmen eight and nine (Qais Ahmad and Kavem Hodge) ended the innings with their scores both not out on naught.
Fletcher led from the front blasting 20 off the first over, bowled by Mohammad Irfan, and he continued to punish the opposition. He was aided by Cornwall’s cameo 11-ball 30 before the big-hitter lost his wicket to Wahab Riaz, who was the Tridents’ best bowler, recording figures of 3-35.
After the departure of Cornwall, Pollard stole the show, joining Fletcher in a stand of 148 for the fourth wicket before Fletcher was removed after scoring 80 from 52 balls (6×4; 6×6; S/R 153.84).
Pollard continued to pound the Tridents bowling and reached his first T20 ton, before Raymon Reifer (2-67) ended the skipper’s magnificent knock the ball after Pollard had reached his ton by smacking Reifer for six. Pollard’s 104 came off 54 balls, with six fours and eight maximums (S/R 192.59).
The Tridents put up a brave chase but it was never enough to match the Stars’ total. Dwayne Smith’s 58 runs off 45 balls was the best effort and included 10 fours and a six (S/R 128.88).
Other contributions came from Hashim Amla (14) in his first match in the League, while Steve Smith (28 runs off 16 balls), Nicholas Pooran (23 off 11) and Shai Hope (25 off 16) added quick runs.
Obed McCoy was the Stars’ best bowler with figures of 3-28, including the wicket of Steve Smith.
The Tridents ended their 20 overs on 188-6, giving the Stars victory by 38 runs.
