• Shamsi returns to squad

Cricket South Africa confirmed on Wednesday that Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has returned to the squad in Sri Lanka.

News broke on Monday that the Proteas spinner was in threat of missing the final Test against Sri Lanka after he returned to South Africa for family reasons.

But the left-hand chinaman, who took four wickets in the Proteas’ humiliating 278-run first Test defeat against Sri Lanka, has rejoined the squad in Colombo for the second and final Test.

The Proteas travelled to Sri Lanka with three spinners in their squad. Titans spinner Shaun von Berg was first in line to replace Shamsi if he was not available, but this seems unlikely with CSA confirming that the 28-year-old chinaman is available for selection.

The Proteas take on Sri Lanka in the final Test in Colombo, which starts on Friday.
