Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been named the Player of the Tournament at this year’s Big Bash League in Australia.
Kallis, who retired from international cricket in July 2014, represented the Sydney Thunder in the country’s premier domestic Twenty20 competition.
The veteran all-rounder scored 235 runs in eight innings at a solid average of 39.16 and clinched five wickets, while his relatively miserly economy rate of 7.00 was among the contest’s top 25.
The 39-year-old stalwart claimed the coveted accolade ahead of Perth’s Michael Klinger and Melbourne’s John Hastings, who topped the run-scoring and wicket-taking charts respectively. Kallis, in fact, only scored the 12th most runs and took the 33rd most wickets.
The Thunder won just two matches in eight attempts this season, finishing second-last in the eight-team standings.
The Perth Scorchers won the 2015 title, beating the Sydney Sixers by four wickets at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday.
