Lungi Ngidi captured four Kings XI Punjab wickets in a dramatic spell of bowling as their opponents were bowled out for 153 off 19.4 overs.
Chennai Super Kings opening bowler Ngidi started off with the prized wicket of Chris Gayle for a second-ball duck with a ball that rose sharply down the leg-side to flick the glove on the way through to the keeper.
Next to fall was Lokesh Rahul, shouldering arms to be bowled by a delivery that moved in sharply to hammer into the off-stump. Ravichandran Ashwin followed next to the slightest of edges that was confirmed by the third umpire after a somewhat nonchalant appeal. His fourth wicket was that of Andrew Tye, caught playing from the crease and lobbing an indecisive push to mid-off.
Ngidi’s spell included a sensational 16 dot balls for one of the greatest bowling performances of this season. He was hit for seven singles and one ball went for two runs in what was quite a phenomenal bowling display. It was also the second-best figures of the season, behind the thrilling 5-14 return of KXIP’s Ankit Rajpoot against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
