North West Cricket and Senwes hosted the Senwes Spinners Farm School Final match between Phakela Primary School and Dr Sello Primary School at Senwes Park on Saturday, 12 May 2018.
The two finalists reached the final after ending up as the top two schools on the log standings during the Senwes Spinners Farm School Tournament, which was held in Potchefstroom from the 3-6 April 2018. Phakela Primary School had reached the finals three times before and were looking to claim victory for the second time whereas it was Dr Sello Primary School’s maiden finals since they joined the program in 2009.
Dr Sello Primary School won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision worked out well as they posted a mammoth total of 170-7 in their allotted 20 overs. The pick of the batsmen for Dr Sello was Katleho Maleka as he scored 78* runs off 44 balls (scoring 16 fours) not out; other batsmen that contributed are Kamohelo Tonyane (13) and Lebohang Molifi (10*). Leading Phakela’s bowling was team captain Kabelo Diamond (3-24); he was supported by Joseph Sebolai (2-28) and Petrus Leshomo (1-26).
Phakela Primary School needed 171 to claim victory in their 20 overs, and they were restricted to 155 runs all out in 19.3 overs. Sebolai was the pick of the batsmen at the final, scoring 84* runs off 57 balls (scored 14 fours and one six) in a losing course. Sebolai was dismissed by Maleka with Phakela on 151-8 and after his dismissal, his teammates could only manage to add four runs to the total. Dr Sello Primary School’s bowling was led by Maleka (2-7) and Mohau Mokoena (2-29). Dr Sello Primary School won the title by 15 runs. Maleka was award with the Man of the Match award for his performances with the bat (78* not out) and bowl (2-7 in one over).
Phakela Primary School received prize money worth R2,500 and Dr Sello Primary School received prize money worth R5,000.
And the latter also played an incentive 10-over match against the NW Dragons after the Senwes Spinners Farm Schools final, as part of the NW Dragon’s community building campaign.
Dr Sello Primary elected to bat first and scored 67-5 in their 10 overs. NW Dragons chased the set target, reaching 71-4 in 7.2 overs and won the match by six wickets.

After the final, the following players and coaches were selected to be part of the Senwes Spinners High Performance team, who will play matches against Ikageng Hub’s U13 team during the Senwes Spinners HP weekend from 18–20 May 2018 at Potchefstroom Boys High A field.
