Rashid Khan’s dismissal of AB de Villiers in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s five-run win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore is our Play of the Day.
It was a masterful spell from the 19-year-old Afghanistan spinner. With RCB chasing a target of 147, Virat Kohli got his side back on course after losing Parthiv Patel for a cameo 20 off 13 balls.
Kohli had found a rhythm at the crease before Khan came in to disrupt the momentum. Bowling to Kohli for the first time, he hassled the RCB skipper. His sixth ball to Kohli, who was on 33 at the time, drew an outside edge which saw Kane Williamson drop a simple catch at slip. Kohli added just six more before Yusuf Pathan’s one-handed screamer at short third man off Shakib Al Hasan sent him packing for 39.
Rashid then hassled RCB’s next big star ― De Villiers. His first delivery to De Villiers drew a review for caught behind but replays showed no bat was involved. Then came an unrecognisable leg-break delivery which De Villiers misjudged and almost clipped onto his stumps. Rashid followed this with a googly which once again bamboozled Mr 360, knocking off his bails on five.
RCB were 80-4 in the 10th over and never recovered.
