The Proteas will take on England in the opening match of the 2019 World Cup on 30 May. 

The 1992 format will be reused for the tournament in England and Wales which kicks off on 30 May and ends 14 July. Ten teams will participate, in a league format with the top four teams progressing to the knockout stages.

England will meet South Africa at the Oval to kick off the competition.

The last time the sides faced, was during the Proteas’ tour of England prior to the ICC Champions Trophy. The Proteas were beaten 2-1 in a series that was followed by a group-stage exit in the Champions Trophy, losing to both India and Pakistan.

The Proteas will be hungry to win the tournament for the first time and will prepare for the tournament by taking on Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Sri Lanka during their 2018-19 season.

Another marquee clash will be the repeat of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final when Pakistan beat India, with the sides squaring up at Old Trafford on 16 June.
