Shocking footage has emerged of Australian ball tamperer Cameron Bancroft putting what looks like spoonfuls of sugar into his pocket during the Ashes.

Bancroft, the second youngest and least experienced member of the Australian team found himself in hot water after he was caught tampering with the ball during the second session on day three of the third Test against South Africa at Newlands.

With nowhere to hide, and having been backed into a corner, Bancroft, along with captain Steve Smith, came clean after the day’s play on Saturday, admitting that he used sticky tape to gather some rough off the pitch and used it to shine the ball.

Smith, who has been given a one-match suspension as a result, said Bancroft had been instructed to do so by the team’s ‘leadership group’ and insisted to the gathered media that it was the first and last time during his leadership that something like that has happened.

Footage has now emerged that suggests Smith was lying.

In a video reportedly taken during the Ashes, which Australia won 4-0, Bancroft is seen putting what looks like a spoonful of sugar into his pocket during a break in play.

For his part in Saturday’s ball tampering incident, Bancroft was fined 75% of his match fee and handed three demerit points for a level two breach of the ICC’s Code of Conduct.
