The two teams that will meet in the final of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge at Tukkies on Sunday afternoon will have to wait for the results of Sunday morning’s second round of cross-pool matches before their places are confirmed. THEO GARRUN reports.
This emerged after day one front-runners Grey High were beaten by St Andrew’s School on Saturday afternoon and Hilton beat St Alban’s.
The upshot is that Hilton are virtually ensured of one final spot. They top the table on 16 points and have beaten St Andrew’s in the pool stages, if a tie were to come about.

St Andrew’s and Grey are both on 12, and if they were to win tomorrow they will both be on 16, with St Andrew’s having the edge should they finish tie second by virtue of beating Grey on Saturday.
The permutations could change, however, should Hilton lose on Sunday, which could happen, seeing as they meet King Edward VII School in their second cross-pool game.
In that eventuality there will be a three-way tie and net run rate will come into it.
The arrival of the first cold front of the winter in Pretoria was accompanied by an early morning downpour, so the morning games could not begin on schedule and were eventually played as five overs-a-side shootouts.
The outstanding feature of the morning was the 38 runs off nine balls (4×6, 3×4) that Ross Whitelaw of St Alban’s College smashed as his side reached the 40 runs set for them by KES in just 11 balls.
There were comfortable wins for Grey and Hilton, while St Andrew’s beat Rondebosch by 4 runs in the only closely contested clash.
King Edward’s Jason Bracher was the top run-scorer on the day, making 86 against Prestige College. There were four other half-centuries on an afternoon that belonged to the batsmen. Gerald Coetzee made 59 for St Andrew’s against Grey; Prestige’s Thabang Baloyi made 50 against KES; Christopher Gleaves got 58 for Graeme against Rondebosch and Rondebosch’s Justin Broad made 59 in the same game.
Tomorrow’s fixtures: St Alban’s v Prestige, Grey v Rondebosch, St Andrew’s v Graeme, Hilton v KES.
