    England great Kevin Pietersen has hinted that he’s played his last game of cricket.

    Having recently done duty in the Pakistan Super League for the Quetta Gladiators, Pietersen took to social media and tweeted: ‘BOOTS UP! Thank you’ to suggest he had called time on his illustrious career that saw him score over 8,000 runs in 104 Test matches for England.

    Pietersen’s career reached its high point when he was central to England’s cause as they won the Ashes in 2005, their first series victory over Australia since 1987. He was also there as England won three consecutive Ashes in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

    He followed that up with another post, which said: ‘Just been told that I scored 30,000+ runs which included 152 fifty’s & 68 hundreds in my professional career. Time to move on!’

    The official account of the England cricket team seemed to confirm that Pietersen had retired when they thanked him.

    Former England captain Michael Vaughan paid his own tribute, calling Pietersen the best batsman he’s ever played with.

    ‘Well done @KP24 on an fantastic career … Not everyone’s Cup of Tea but you will do for me … Best Batsman I had the pleasure to play with … 1st England batsman that put fear into the Aussies .. #WellDone,’ said Vaughan on Twitter.
