The Warriors and the Titans are now the pace-setters in the Sunfoil Series after two more matches were drawn at the weekend.
They are the only teams to have won a match after six rounds of the Series.
In Bloemfontein, Dane Vilas took the opportunity to enhance his averages with a cavalier century after the Dolphins had batted their way out of trouble, as they were forced to follow on 241 behind the Knights‘ first innings of 478. They finally declared after lunch on 426-4, 185 runs ahead, having scored 239 in 56 overs.
Once Sarel Erwee had scored 128 off 270 balls, and Morne van Wyk had blunted the Knights’ enthusiasm with 58 off 216, the rest of the lineup were free to open up. Vaughn van Jaarsveld ran up 51 off 61 balls (7×4, 1×6) while Vilas ended unbeaten on 102 off 105 balls (14×4, 2×6) alongside Senuran Muthusamy on 76 off 149 (6×4, 1×6).
At that point, the stumps were drawn.
With bad light having curtailed day three in Benoni on Saturday, the Cobras – carrying an 82-run lead from the first innings – ran up 185-6 in 50 overs on day four, offering the Titans a target of 268 in 51 overs.
Kyle Verreynne (36 off 50) and Aviwe Mgijima (43 off 51) were the principal architects of that with a 73-run stand in 14.4 overs.
Whatever hopes the Titans had of having a go at that were damaged by two early wickets and then rain, three overs after tea.
The Titans chalked up their sole victory in the first round of Sunfoil matches last year, while the Warriors triumphed on day three of their match against the Lions. With four rounds to go, the result could be the death knell for the Lions, for they were the losers to the Titans, too, and so are the only team with two losses.
They remain at the foot of the table with 61.4 points, while the Titans remain at the top on 92.1, just 5.4 ahead of the Warriors.
