Thando Ntini and Hermann Rolfes shared seven scalps to reduce Namibia U19 to 184-9, before Raynard van Tonder’s half-century sealed a 62-run win (D/L) for South Africa U19.
It was another dominant display for South Africa’s bowlers who were ruthless for the second time against Namibia.
Ntini (3-27) put his side on the front foot with a double, picking off Henry Brink (16) and Namibia captain, Lohan Louwrens (2), with 25 runs on the board.
Rolfes then squeezed the visitors with four scalps to restrict Nambia to 41-6 in 19 overs. Jurgen Linde (7), Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (0), Eben van Wyk (0) and Shaun Fouché (8) all fell victim to Rolfes who ended with figures of 4-16.
Petrus Burger and Gerhard Lottering sparked a Namibian recovery – Burger with a laboured 61-ball 22 and Lottering with an unbeaten 75-ball 83, before Ntini bagged his third, Namibia losing Burger four runs short of the 150-run mark.
Jason Niemand (2-23) then picked up two exquisite wickets which rattled the visitors, Jan-Izak de Villiers (17) caught and bowled in the 43rd over and Mauritius Ngupita (2) clean bowled in the 45th over.
Lottering and Ben Shikongo (10) managed to take Namibia to a measly 184-9 in their 50 overs.
South Africa’s chase was stalled when they lost their top three – Jiveshan Pillay (31), Jacob Miltz (1) and Niemand (1) folding as SA were restricted to 81-3.
SA U19 skipper, Van Tonder (59 off 64 balls), took control of the game and scored a half-century to revive his side after a collapse. He was well supported by Wandile Makwetu (30), as the pair guided SA to 139-3 before bad lightning ended play, the hosts claiming a 62-runs victory (D/L method).
