Matthew Breetzke scored a solitary 52 as South Africa U19 were bundled out for 166, in pursuit of England’s 290-run target.
It was a spread out batting display by England who made things tough for the South African bowlers. Savin Perera (82), Harry Brook (91) and Tom Lammonby (62) were the glue of their side’s innings, as the visitors reached 289-5.
Akhona Mnyaka was the hosts’ best bowler taking 2-70, while Gerald Coetzee, Fraser Jones and Matthew Breetzke all chipped in with a wicket apiece.
The visitors looked certain of breezing past the 300-run mark, but bad lighting and rain stopped play with one over of play left in the innings.
SA U19 got off to a solid start – Jiveshan Pillay and Matthew Breetzke putting on 81 for the first wicket before Pillay was dismissed by Will Jacks on 31.
Breetzke continued to power on to score a 46-ball 52, but his wicket sparked a collapse after losing his partner, Andile Mokgakane, on one.
SA U19 were all out for 166 with only Jean du Plessis (16) and Van Tonder (14) reaching double figures, England claiming a 112-run victory (D/L method).
