Nathan Lyon’s mishap in the kitchen stopped play between Queensland and New South Wales, in a 30-minute stoppage due to burnt toast.
New South Wales were well on top in the clash needing 128 to win, and knowing he likely would not be needed in the middle, Lyon decided he would grab a quick bite.
He slipped a slice of bread in the toaster and a few minutes later, with his side nearing victory, an alarm sounded, the play was stopped, fire engines arrived and the guilty suspect had to own up to his crime.
‘[The toast] popped up first and I wasn’t happy, so I put it back down and I got carried away watching the cricket,’ Lyon said. ‘There’s a first for everything.’ This time it was burnt toast stopping play at Sheffield Shield.
‘Steve Smith already said he’s going to cover it [the fire truck call-out fee].’ Lyon concluded.
