The Proteas Women side have been nominated as Team of the Year at the South African Sports Awards.
Hilton Moreeng’s chargers will compete with the Sevens Rugby side, as well as the Lions Rugby team for the award.
It’s been an incredible year for Women’s Cricket after the first-ever televised Women’s World Cup saw the Proteas reach the semi-finals only to lose to the eventual winners (England).
As a result of this achievement, Moreeng has received a nomination for Coach of the Year for helping Proteas captain Dane van Niekerk lead her ladies to the knockout stage, beating the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and India.
Other cricketers up for awards are Keshav Maharaj – Newcomer of the Year, and Kagiso Rabada – People’s Choice of the Year.
