An Edward Moore century put the Warriors in control against the Cobras on day one of their Sunfoil Series clash on Thursday.
They ended the day on 263-4. The 24-year-old struck 12 fours and a six to reach his sixth first-class ton before he was the Warriors’ second wicket to fall.
His 111-run partnership with Yaseen Valli saw the hosts recover from being 53-1 to reach 164-1, before Moore was removed on 100 off 198 balls.
Valli continued to push his side forward, but the Eastern Cape-side lost their third, Lesiba Ngoepe out on 11 with his side two runs short of 200.
Warriors captain Jon-Jon Smuts joined Valli at the crease, but the pair only added 19 runs before Valli lost his wicket on 63. Smuts powered to an unbeaten 46 at the close of play, partnered by Jerry Nqolo (17*).
Dane Piedt (3-55) was the main destroyer for the Cobras, picking up three sticks which included the wicket of Moore, while Dane Paterson picked up the wicket of Valli; the Warriors on 263-4 by stumps on day one.
Meanwhile, in a competitive Jukskei derby, the Titans paced themselves to 293 despite losing five wickets. Heino Kuhn (73), Farhaan Behardien (78) and Henry Davids (80*) top-scored for the Centurion side, while Beuran Hendricks picked up two scalps for the Lions by stumps on day one.
Day one between the Dolphins and the Knights was rained out.
