David Miller expressed his disappointment after the Proteas failed to get over the line in the second ODI at the Rose Bowl on Saturday. 

Miller was pivotal in guiding his side close to victory, scoring a 51-ball 71 and putting on a 62-run sixth-wicket partnership with Chris Morris (35 off 22 balls), as the Proteas chased 330.

In the end, they fell just two runs short of the target with five wickets to spare, and Miller expressed his disapointment ahead of the third ODI on Monday.

‘It was disappointing not to go over the line at the end,’ Miller said to the media on Sunday.

‘Scoring 71 gives me a lot of confidence going forward. I have been feeling good over the last couple of months, I didn’t get too many games in the IPL, but I still felt good working hard on my game in the nets.’

He continued by admitting that the Proteas should learn from the experience.

‘The proof is in the pudding, which is in trying to win games for your country,’ he said.

‘We fell short, which is disappointing but we are also preparing for something big. If anything, you would rather have it happen now than in the Champions Trophy, so hopefully we can learn from something like this, but it is tough to swallow.

‘Normally, chasing a total like that is challenging,’ he added.

‘You have to take constructive risks at times, they luckily came off yesterday even though we were a little bit short. It’s always a challenging task to try and look for your gaps, to try and hit them and to take on the risks.’

The third ODI will take place on Monday at 12pm SAST.
