The latest Proteas ODI replica kit was revealed on Tuesday and 11 fans became the first in the world to receive it.
After providing New Balance with a motivation as to why they are the ultimate Proteas fans, the supporters were treated to a once in a lifetime experience; a surprise visit to their home from Proteas including Dale Steyn, Temba Bavuma and Tabraiz Shamsi, who delivered the kit personally to the selected supporters.
Proteas fan Mpho Mutloane told New Balance that the Proteas team is the love of his life.
‘I am an avid Proteas fan so to have Temba Bavuma visit my home is something I’ll remember forever. I’d like to thank New Balance and Cricket South Africa for this once in a lifetime experience. I will be wearing this shirt with pride as I cheer on the Proteas over the coming season.
‘With a big international season ahead we are excited to make the new Protea’s ODI replica kit available to supporters around the country from the 23rd May,’ said Craig Bowen, Country Manager of New Balance South Africa.
‘To coincide with the new season’s launch and in partnership with Cricket South Africa and the Proteas, we are proud to recognise eleven fans who can only be described as ‘ultimate Protea supporters.
‘We urge all South Africans to get behind the Proteas, wear their supporters kit on match days and give 100% for the Proteas this season, especially for Champion’s Trophy.’
New Balance and CSA are challenging fans to #BeProteas this summer by wearing their green in gold on match days in support of the team.
The Proteas’ first outing in the kit will be in a three-match ODI series against England before they compete in the ICC Champions Trophy with the Proteas Women wearing the kit in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
ODI captain, AB de Villers, expressed his pride for the Proteas supporters.
‘Visiting our fans and recognising their ongoing support of our team was a great experience for the Proteas. We have some of the best fans in world cricket and their support means a huge amount to us. We can’t wait to see everyone at the stadiums in their new green and gold, supporting the Proteas this season. Remember, we are all in this together.’
The new Proteas kit is available from Sportsmans Warehouse stores across South Africa and through their online store at www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za.
