The Proteas have been put in to bat first in the fifth ODI against Sri Lanka, as they look to wrap up the whitewash and achieve the No 1 ranking.
The hosts are only one match away from successive whitewash ODI series. Who could have predicted that when they walked out for the first ODI against Australia back in September last year?
Faf du Plessis’ career-best 185 inspired the Proteas to a record-breaking 13th consecutive win on home soil, and at Centurion today, they have a chance to make it 11 ODI wins in a row. What they’re really eyeing, is knocking Australia off that No 1 spot with a victory in warm conditions at SuperSport Park.
There are two changes apiece, as Sri Lanka close their series with Jeffrey Vandersay and Eranga Lakmal featuring in the bowling attack at the expense of Lakshan Sandakan and Nuwan Kulasekara. As expected, the Proteas have opted against selecting two spinners, with Tabraiz Shamsi moving out for Andile Phehlukwayo, while all-rounder Chris Morris comes in for Dwaine Pretorius.
