After limited opportunities with the bat so far in the series, JP Duminy is hoping to get an opportunity to build up some form at his home ground, Newlands, on Tuesday.

Duminy has been in a rich form of late, hitting big centuries against Australia and Sri Lanka in the longest format, in between a pair of fifties against the Aussies in their ODI whitewash series late last year.

While he’s been given every opportunity to get back into form by being pushed in to the No 4 slot in the Test matches, Duminy hasn’t had the chance to really express himself in the 50-over format coming in at No 5, with his bowling in fact doing more of the talking so far.

So far Duminy has batted twice, scoring 11 in the second match before providing a finishing role of 28 not out at the Wanderers to seal the series. His 10 overs throughout has seen him collect two wickets at 27 runs apiece.

He’d like to have a longer run with the willow when the sides meet on Wednesday. He told the media at the nets at Newlands on Monday that he’s keen to improve on his form at Newlands, that’s seen him average 17.14 from four Tests at his home ground.

‘I think the game situation determines the way you play and I’ve played this game long enough and batted in this position for long enough to understand the difference and adapt to the situation,’ Duminy said on switching his mindset from Tests to ODIs.

‘I haven’t had the best run of form at Newlands, so it will be good to get an opportunity.’

The 32-year-old remained coy on his side’s aims to close out another whitewash series and seal the No 1 spot in the world, with attention firmly placed on Tuesday’s match, despite the quick turnaround that sees the Proteas begin their series against New Zealand a week after the ODI series concludes against Sri Lanka.

‘We’ve always had one eye on 5-0, but we’re not looking ahead yet. It’s always a nice thing to be ranked No 1, but the preparations towards the Champions Trophy is what’s important.’
