We crunch the numbers ahead of the first ODI between the Proteas and Sri Lanka.

The Proteas have played 31 ODIs at St George’s Park since 1992, winning 19, losing 11 and one ending in a no-result. Giving them a win percentage of 61.29%.

The team batting first went on to win 14 times and the team batting second went on to win 16 times, so there is not really any indication whether Batting 1st or 2nd will give a team any advantage.

The highest total for a team batting first is 335-6 by Pakistan against the Proteas in 2002. That match also boasted the largest victory margin at the ground – a massive 182 runs.

The highest total for a team batting second is 330-7 by Australia, when they chased down a target of 326 against the proteas in 2002.

The lowest total for a team batting first is 119 all out by the Proteas in a seven-wicket defeat to England in 2009.

The lowest total for a team batting second happened when Australia dismissed New Zealand for only 112 at the 2003 World Cup.

The highest individual score is 135 scored by Saleem Elahi against the Proteas in that 2002 victory.

Herschelle Gibbs is the only player to have scored two centuries at the ground.

Jacques Kallis is the leading run-scorer at the ground, scoring a total of 670 runs in 17 innings.

The 257 runs is the highest partnership between Saleem Elahi and Abdul Razzaq.

The best bowling figures at the ground was achieved by Andy Bichel, who took 7-20 runs in his 10 overs against England at the 2003 World Cup.

Shaun Pollock is the leading wicket-tacker at the ground, as he took 20 wickets in the 17 innings he played there.

Only five bowlers have taken five or more wickets in an ODI innings. The last time this happened Dale Steyn took 6-39 in a losing cause against Pakistan in 2013.

The Proteas have lost three out of the last five ODIs played at St George’s Park.
