AB de Villiers’ position as the No 1 ODI batsman in the world has been taken over by David Warner.

The 32-year-old was surpassed by David Warner, whose heroics against Pakistan, where he scored 367 runs including two tons, helped his side to a 4-1 series win. Warner’s performances helped him reach the No 1 spot for the first time in his career and went 19 points clear of De Villiers.

After spending a lengthy time on the sidelines due to elbow surgery, De Villiers scored 63 in his first competitive match for the Proteas in a T20 against Sri Lanka on Wednesday since June last year, and is set to make his ODI comeback on Saturday in the first of five ODIs against Sri Lanka in PE. The former No 1, who played 206 matches scoring at an average of 53.63 (48 fifties and 24 centuries), will look to regain top spot batting at No 4 for the Proteas.

South Africa dominate the top 10 with Quinton de Kock in fourth on the rankings and former No 1 Hashim Amla on seventh.

The Proteas will take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI in PE on Saturday.
