The Highveld Lions sensibly declined an offer of scoring 262 in 50 overs to beat the Dolphins in their Sunfoil match.
Play was called off at Pietermaritzburg with the Lions on 74-1 off 31 overs, scoring at 2.3 an over.
Earlier Khaya Zondo led the way, adding another fifty to his first-innings unbeaten 141, as the Dolphins piled up 189-6 in 51 overs on the fourth day to be able to present a declaration. Morne van Wyk added 28 off 27 (with just four fours) and Keshav Maharaj smashed an amazing 26 off 14 (3×4, 1×6).
The Dolphins enhanced their position at the top of the log, increasing the gap ahead of the Titans to just under eight points, by virtue of 6.78 bonus and the fact that this was on the only match played this weekend. The Titans now have a game in hand.
Given that bad light had affected the match so much on days 2 and 3, there was little chance the overs were available anyway. Stephen Cook fell to Maharaj for the second time in the match, having scored 10 off 37 balls, with the score on 28 off 10 overs. Maharaj was the Dolphins top bowler with 6-86 in the first innings.
