Intermittent rain has delayed the toss in the 1st T20 international between the Proteas and Sri Lanka at Centurion.
The rain is teasing a packed faithful at Centurion for the opening fixture of the three-match series. Despite forecasts suggesting it would be a flawless day, thunderstorms in Johannesburg have swept across Centurion and have threatened an outcome in the opener.
It must be particularly frustrating for Farhaan Behardien. As Donald Trump makes his bow for the US, Behardien is anxiously waiting to do so for the Proteas in what is a new-look side, boasting up to as many as six debutants.
Sri Lanka will be equally eager to step on the field, for they need to repair a damaging 2016 that saw them drop as low as No 8 in the T20 rankings, due to 13 defeats in the 16 games they played last year.
The rain is expected to eventually cease, but the covers are on and parts of the ground are getting damp, making it a frustrating evening for all involved.
