The Proteas Women went 2-0 up against Bangladesh with a 17-run win in their ODI at Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
Lizelle Lee top-scored once again with 70 off 57 balls and with the help of 20-year old Andrie Steyn (66 off 90) put on 110 for the first wicket. This gave SA the start they needed but after the wicket of Lee, runs was hard to come by.
Two run-outs in within three overs did not help the cause. The dismissal of Mignon du Preez (3) and Chloe Tryon (10) set the Proteas back at 137-3, and when Steyn was stumped off the bowling of Panna Ghosh, the innings stalled at 167-4.
Khadija Tul Kubra (4-56) bowled magnificently, not allowing anyone to settle in, taking out the Proteas’ entire middle order as they collapsed to 224 in 49.0 overs.
Bangladesh fought back hard thanks to Sharmin Akhter (74) and Rumana Ahmed (68) but they fell 17 runs short at 206-8.
Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus both took two wickets with Dane van Niekerk and Ayabonga Khaka chipping in with one apiece.
