Andrew Puttick scored 85 as the Cobras posted 291 on day one against the Warriors at Buffalo Park on Thursday.
Having been put in to bat, Puttick took control as he and Simon Khomari (17), made an opening stand of 49. Then he and Kolpak signee Stiaan van Zyl put on 74 for the second wicket, which included Puttick reaching his 44th career fifty.
Sisanda Magala (3-71) struck quickly to remove both Van Zyl (38) and Justin Ontong (4), to leave the Cobras at on 128-3, but Jason Smith contributed 29 off 32 balls to a 43-run fourth-wicket partnership.
Dane Vilas (8) then fell to Simon Harmer as the Warriors started to gain control of the innings. Puttick fell to Magala and Rory Kleinveldt scored a useful 31 off 38 balls, but Aviwe Mgijima held the innings together until he was last out with a well-worked 51.
The Warriors started off poorly, losing Gionne Koopman to Paterson in the second over. They will start day two on 5-1 with Edward Moore and Colin Ackermann at the crease.
