JP Duminy is awarded our Play of the Day for his sparkling knock against Sri Lanka at St George’s Park.
Duminy was one of the Proteas’ star performers in the recent Test series against Australia, which South Africa won 2-1. On Monday, the left-handed batsman marked the start of the three-game series against Sri Lanka in style when he stroked his way to 63.
The momentum appeared to be with Sri Lanka after Suranga Lakmal removed Stephen Cook and then Dean Elgar to reduce the Proteas to 105-2. Duminy, however, made his intentions clear from the very first ball when he drove Lakmal for four.
By the end of the second session, Duminy had hit nine boundaries and had scored at quicker than a run a ball. It was during that period that Duminy played with poise and authority. The Sri Lankan bowlers appeared to have no answers.
Duminy’s superb knock came to an end after tea, however, when he was trapped lbw by Rangana Herath.
