Paul Adams’ prospects as coach has plunged further after the Cobras suffered their third defeat in four matches.
This will raise further concern surrounding the stability of Adams’ position.
It has been brought to the attention of the public that several senior Cobras’ players signed a petition asking for the removal of Adams as coach, and the evidence shows in the performances of the side as confidence and morale continues to drop. They are still without a win, having drawn their match against the Warriors last week, also on their home ground.
After losing three wickets for 37 towards the end of day two on Friday, as they sought to make up a first-innings deficit of 165, the Cobras started off day three in the same mould. They lost seven wickets for 78, ending on 115 in 40 overs and losing by an innings and 50.
Legbreak-spinner Simon von Berg stood out again, taking his second five-for of the match. He ended with 5-25 in the second innings for a match tally of 10-113.
Future star Lungi Ngidi picked up two wickets after going wicketless in the first innings. David Wiese and Henry Davids added to their wickets tally by also taking two each, as the reigning champions start to fight their way up the table.
Stiaan van Zyl’s 65 along with Dane Piedt (3-35) and Rory Kleinveldt’s (3-76) in the first innings were the only positives to draw out of the match.
The Cobras will face the dangerous Dolphins in their next outing as their season looks prematurely dead in the water.
