With the 2016-17 school cricket season now in full swing, there were a stack of interesting results from the weekend.
Starting out in the Western Cape, powerhouses Rondebosch Boys’ High and Wynberg Boys’ High flexed their muscles with impressive wins over Pinelands High and Stellenberg High respectively.
SACS continued their impressive run of form from the Cape Schools Week with openers Greg Willows (152) and Matthew Begg (95) combining for a 254-run opening stand in their drawn match against Paarl Boys’ High.
Elsewhere, Boland Landbou claimed a good win over Somerset College, whilst Bishops and Paul Roos were involved in a fairly high-scoring draw.
In the Eastern Cape, Selborne College picked up a nine-wicket win over Stirling High in their East London derby. The Selbornians seem to be on the right track having strung some decent performances together at the Cape Schools Week earlier this month. However, the biggest news must be Hudson Park’s convincing win over Kingswood College. The East Londoners have grown from strength to strength under coach Dave Alers in recent times, having claimed a win over Maritzburg College at the recent Oppenheimer Michaelmas Week.
KwaZulu-Natal Midlands giants, Michaelhouse and Hilton, had a good weekend picking up wins over Maritzburg College and Westville Boys’ High respectively. Also in KZN, there was a comfortable win for Andile Phehlukwayo’s alma mater, Glenwood High, over local rivals DHS.
Up north, Affies edged neighbours Pretoria Boys’ High by eight runs in an absolute humdinger, whilst St Stithians downed St Benedict’s.
