Proteas batsmen will have to become more cautious as the new DRS laws come into effect for the first time in the match against Ireland in Benoni on Sunday.
The new law brings more of the stumps into play when overturning or confirming an umpire’s lbw call, making a batsman’s time at the crease just a little more daunting.
For a not-out decision to be overturned, more than half the ball has to be impacting the pad within a zone bordered by the outside of off and leg stumps. Formerly, it was the centre of off and leg stumps. The ball also needs to be hitting the stumps within a zone bordered by the outside of off and leg stumps and the bottom of the bails.
