Dale Steyn’s brace earns Play of the Day with a superb 2-3 off six overs.
Dale Steyn shows early signs of a comeback as the speedster played his first match after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Steyn showed little signs of weakness with the ball in hand striking early in the sixth over. Tom Latham was caught for pace getting a thick outside edge that flew safely into the hands of Hashim Amla at first slip. The paceman made it clear that he was back with a purpose, getting his second wicket at the end of the eighth over, catching the dangerous Martin Guptill lbw much to the Protea’s delight.
Vernon Philander, another man to have inflicted considerable damage on the Kiwis in the past, also showed early signs that he is fit and ready to take the fight to the Black Caps, showing evidence of good pace and consistency. The pairing looked dangerous before the match was stopped due to bad light and rain, New Zealand on 15-2 at the close of play.
