Faf du Plessis and Dale Steyn, the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively in the One-Day Triangular series in Zimbabwe, have both moved up the ICC’s ODI rankings.

And by winning the title, South Africa have moved within a fraction of a point of India at the top of the team rankings after what was a successful assignment in Harare.

India and South Africa are equal at 113 ratings points, but when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point, India has 113.49 ratings points as compared to South Africa’s 112.96 ratings points. Had South Africa also beaten Australia on 2 September, then the Proteas would be No1. Defeat in the final for Australia meant they slipped to fourth, with Sri Lanka in third position.

Du Plessis scored 464 runs and played a leading role in his side’s victory in the triangular series and was rewarded with a jump of 33 places to 11 in the list for ODI batsmen. He hit three centuries and a 96. Had he scored another hundred he would have become the first batsman to score four tons in a series.

Du Plessis is the fourth South Africa batsman to feature inside the top 11 with captain AB de Villiers regaining the No1 slot from Hashim Amla, while Quinton de Kock slips two places to ninth.

Amla had entered the triangular series leading De Villiers by one ratings point. He dropped 22 ratings points after scoring 172 runs, which handed the top spot back to De Villiers.

Steyn’s 10 wickets for 212 runs in the tournament have seen him move up one spot to number three in the bowling rankings. The Proteas’ spin duo of Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso have also achieved career-best rankings. Tahir has moved up 10 places to 26th position while Phangiso has gained 28 spots and he is now in 68th spot.
